What Georgia’s Experience Can Teach Us

What Georgia’s Experience Can Teach Us

At this year’s Finticipate Forum, we’ll be joined by Mikheil Kapanadze, a seasoned technology and policy expert with nearly three decades of experience across banking, government, and digital identity.

Starting his career as a programmer in 1997, Mikheil has since moved into strategic leadership roles, shaping some of Georgia’s most important digital reforms. Since 2020, he has been leading national initiatives at the Banking Association of Georgia, developing standards that are actively used today with growing transaction volumes.

Through his work within the association, he has been closely involved in aligning banks, fintechs, and regulators around shared industry frameworks and a common voice.

His background also includes senior roles at Georgia’s Ministry of Justice, where he worked on qualified electronic signatures, national e‑ID infrastructure, and co-authored key legislation on electronic documents and trust services. More recently, he advised on Georgia’s next-generation e‑passport and e‑ID programs, resulting in new identity documents launched in 2025. Earlier in his career, he also worked on major projects at the Bank of Georgia.
